Vocalic Language
Vocalic language refers to the vocal characteristics and nuances that go beyond mere word choice, encompassing aspects like pitch, resonance, and vocal fold closure tension (weight). These vocal qualities play a significant role in gender expression, often signaling masculinity even before specific words are recognized. For transmen, aligning their vocalic language with their identified gender can be pivotal for feeling authentically represented and avoiding misgendering in daily interactions.
Verbal Language
Verbal language includes the words we select, the expressions we utilize, and the speech rhythms we integrate into our communication. Cultural and societal norms frequently align specific ways of speaking with masculinity. In the realm of gender expression, grasping these verbal subtleties is crucial. By adopting masculine verbal language, transmen and transboys can amplify their authentic self-representation, nurturing a more profound sense of alignment and affirmation in social exchanges.
Nonverbal Language
Nonverbal language encompasses the gestures, facial expressions, and body language that accompany our words, and it holds a significant yet understated influence in transmitting gender signals. For female-to-male individuals, harmonizing nonverbal communication with their identified gender can significantly affect the perception of their voice and overall masculinity. The assertive stance, the manner in which one positions their arms, or the cadence of a gesture can either bolster or counteract the masculinity of the voice, making proficiency in nonverbal signals vital in comprehensively presenting one's genuine self.

I am FTM and my voice was very high. I wanted to make my voice lower and Seth helped me with that. He also showed me how to change my way of talking like making sure my voice isn’t just low but also sounds masculine.
My voice was totally wrong!
I love doing my make up and wearing cute outfits and I am totally passing but as soon as I opened my mouth it would all fall apart! It’s a long process but now I feel like I am closer to really being myself! I love my new voice!
Keri makes sure I always feel safe. Some days I even just need to talk and she always listens. I have a lot of depression and anxiety and some times I just can’t work hard and Keri never makes me feel bad when I don’t do my homework. She understands.
